The United States acquired its 50 states through a combination of territory purchases, annexations, and territorial advancements. From the original 13 colonies, the US expanded westward through the Louisiana Purchase, the Mexican-American War, and various treaties and agreements, ultimately leading to the inclusion of Alaska and Hawaii as the 49th and 50th states, respectively.
